Proud Educators (PE) seeks to transform schools by supporting the practice of LGBTQ+ educators. We advocate for the freedom of teachers, principals, paras and other school professionals to authentically express their gender identity and sexual orientation in workplaces that are safe and supportive. Through storytelling, networking and action-based research, we educate ourselves and others to dismantle structures that limit the freedom of queer practitioners to be themselves with students and families. By liberating educators to be LGBTQ role models and by entering into solidarity with other marginalized groups, we seek to create schools in which teachers are more effective and students are learning to celebrate the rich diversity of human experience in an inclusive, pluralistic society.
Advancing Equity, Community, and Educator Well-Being Through Proud Educators
As a member of Proud Educators’ steering committee, I support the organization’s mission of empowering LGBTQ+ educators to bring their authentic selves to their school communities. My work centers on fostering belonging, strengthening professional connections, and supporting affirming environments for educators and students.
As Project Coordinator for the Proud Educator Institute, I helped coordinate a two-day gathering for LGBTQ+ educators across the New York metropolitan area. Held October 4–5, 2025, at Brooklyn College’s School of Education in partnership with the CUNY Graduate Center’s CLAGS, the Institute brought together professional learning, strategic conversations, healing practices, and community-building.
Through this work, I connect collaborative leadership and project coordination with a commitment to educator wellness and equity. My involvement reflects my belief that supporting educators’ identities, professional growth, and sense of community is integral to building inclusive, thriving schools.
